Fertility Massage — what is it and will it help?

All massage can be deeply supportive when you are trying to conceive.

But what exactly is fertility massage, and how can it support you on your journey?

A therapeutic relaxation massage on its own offers so much. One of the most powerful benefits is the way it works with your nervous system. As your body begins to settle on the table, you move out of a stress-driven state and into a more relaxed, restorative one.

This matters more than we often realise. When your body is constantly in a state of stress, it can affect your sleep, your energy, your emotional wellbeing, and how safe and supported your body feels overall.

Massage also supports healthy circulation, eases tension, and gives your body space to rest and repair. Sometimes that alone is exactly what is needed.

So what makes a massage “fertility massage”?

Fertility massage often includes a little more intention around the abdomen, pelvis, and diaphragm.

These areas can hold a surprising amount of tension, especially when you are navigating the physical and emotional layers of trying to conceive. Gentle abdominal work can help soften this space, support comfort in the body, and deepen your sense of connection to yourself.

Each therapist will bring their own approach. This is how I work within my sessions.

Therapies I use in my Fertility Massage

Tu’lix Indigenous Arts (Mayan abdominal massage)

This style of abdominal work is deeply grounding and supportive. It can be especially helpful for women experiencing pelvic discomfort, tension, or conditions such as endometriosis or painful periods.

Recent research into hands-on therapies for pelvic conditions shows improvements in pain levels, mobility, and overall quality of life. For many women, this kind of work brings a sense of softness back into the belly and a feeling of being more at home in their body.

Swedish Massage

Relaxation techniques at their finest.

This is where your nervous system really gets to exhale. Your body is given permission to slow down, unwind, and shift into a state of rest.

During the fertility journey, this can be incredibly supportive. It offers a pause from the constant thinking, planning, and emotional load that can come with trying to conceive.

Acupressure Points

Drawing from traditional Chinese medicine, specific points on the body can be gently stimulated through pressure.

These points are often used to support balance and flow within the body. Many women find this aspect of the treatment deeply calming and grounding.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy works through the limbic system, the part of the brain connected to emotion and memory.

The right blend can help soften the mind, lift your mood, and deepen relaxation. It becomes part of the overall experience of feeling held, supported, and cared for.

How fertility massage supports you

Fertility massage is best understood as a supportive therapy. It is something that can sit alongside any fertility treatments you are exploring, or simply support you in your own natural journey.

It can help to:

  • Support your nervous system and reduce stress

  • Ease tension through the abdomen, pelvis, and body

  • Improve overall wellbeing and relaxation

  • Create a deeper connection with your body

For many women, the most meaningful part is not just the physical benefits, but how they feel afterwards. More grounded. More connected. Ready for what comes next.

A research-informed approach

While fertility massage is not a medical treatment, emerging research supports the role of hands-on therapies and holistic care in supporting women experiencing pelvic pain, endometriosis, and the emotional load of the fertility journey.

Studies show that manual and physiotherapy-based treatments can improve pain, mobility, and overall quality of life, while approaches that support relaxation and wellbeing can help reduce stress and support the nervous system.

This is the space fertility massage sits within — gentle, supportive care that works alongside your body and any treatments you may be receiving.

A space to land

Fertility massage is not about forcing the body to do something it is not ready for.

It is about creating the conditions for your body to feel safe, supported, and nourished.

A space where you can step away from the noise, come back into your body, and simply rest.

Wherever you are on your journey, you are welcome here.
