Keeping away the chills and ills

Seasonal food just happens to have all the goodness inside that we need for this time of year. Lets take autumnal vegetables pumpkin and butternut add in some warming ginger and a natural antibiotic like garlic and you have yourself a tasty nourishing soup to keep the bugs away.

Pumpkin - high in vitamin A, a potent antioxidant, immune enhancing properties as well as providing protection for the lining of the respiratory system. One cup of pumpkin soup will give you over 100% of your recommended daily intake of Vitamin A.

Bell peppers - vitamin C needs no introduction - highly antioxidant it protects your cells from damage while supporting immunity by boosting white cell function. Vitamin C has been shown to reduce the severity of colds and flu when taken prophetically. That means start taking it well before you get sick!

Garlic - it is ANTI everything bacterial, fungal, viral, parasitic, and anti-inflammatory. Such a gem of a super food that no wonder it has been mentioned in literature since ancient times. Its been said that while building the pyramids the Egyptians ate a clove of garlic a day for strength and stamina.

Ginger - A gentle warming circulatory stimulant, fights inflammation, stimulates circulation warming up cold hands and feet.


1 whole pumpkin

2 red bell peppers/capsicums

4 carrots

3 cloves of garlic

Peel and chop pumpkin and carrots into chunks

Quarter the peppers and add to oven for roasting

1/2 can coconut cream (if you like it creamy, otherwise use water)

1/2 cup water

Salt and pepper to taste

1/2 teaspoon of chili

1/2 teaspoon cumin

1/2 cup of coriander

1 tablespoon of oil

In a pot add oil and all other ingredients to saute, take veges out of oven and add to pot with water and coconut cream. Break up veggies with a spatula Simmer for another 10 min then add to a food processor/ blender until smooth. Mix 1/2 of the coriander into soup and the rest to garnish
